LIFE TIME GEAR BOOT & SHOE COLLECTION | 13 | VINTAGE 2-TONE SEARS WORKBOOTS BY DAVID VARNER

this is the newest but one of the oldest pieces of my collection. and the absolute best is that i got this awesome and rare two-tone SEARS boots from the 70s as a present from LIFE TIME GEAR blog fan DAVID VARNER. he wrote me a mail that the boots were on their way to germany as present because they didn’t fit him and he thought i would be happy to get them: YES I AM!!! damn, what a surprise i was really touched by the kind words DAVID wrote me. he is a great boot lover too and has a huge collection of work and hiking boots – a portrait will follow soon. DAVID is a 40 year-old locomotive engineer – on the picture aboard AMTRAK’s 40TH ANNIVERSARY TRAIN – and a former mensa member. prior working for the railroad he was employed in another traditional blue-collar job (automotive assembly-line worker) where the only boots that mattered were RED WINGS. he was always been driven by quality, good-design, lasting craftsmanship and value. these are some of the things LIFE TIME GEAR speaks about! thanks agin DAVID. still unbelievable. and DAVID the fit is perfect and i think i won’t customize them. they are great as they are. pics | LTG

LIFE TIME GEAR BOOT & SHOE COLLECTION | 12 | VINTAGE CUSTOMIZED RED WING SHOES STYLE 899

generally i bought this boot just to complete my boot & shoe collection with one of the icon RED WING SHOES par excellence: the #899. i was searching for a classic oro-russet colored one. hard to find, because the 899 is not built anymore. since about two years you can buy the oro-iginal colored #2945 and the dark brown #4585 with the same shape and sole – nice boots but not the classic #899. awkward to say: i owned a 899 about 20 years ago. it was my second RWS, but i sold it to buy another one when i was a student – no money to own several paris of RWS. a big mistake! but times change … now i own a classic vintage 899 RWS IRISH SETTER. i bought it more than a year ago at ebay. it is really rugged but in good condition. when i got it, i changed the soles because i decided to wear the boot. the plan to complete just my collection was cancelled. this #899 is still much to nice just to be placed in the closet. and it is so comfortable with the original RWS white crepe sole. pics | LTG

BOOT OF THE DAY | #110 | VINTAGE RED WING SHOES # 855

a rare and awesome boot in good condition: well used RED WING #855 found at GROOVY, japan. i own the same boot in i would say in an even better condition, but it is a RWS IRISH SETTER. i like this boot so much because of its three different sorts of eyelets and the classic RED WING colour. that’s really interesting. this 855 is from the 70s, sized 11B and available for 178.53 euros. pics | GROOVY
