LIFE TIME GEAR | FAVORITES #47 | HEY AMERICANA

readers of LIFE TIME GEAR know that i’m not a friend of TUMBLR. sites. but there are some really nice ones which indeed need no words and are made by their user. which means tumbled by own pictures or photos. so there is “HEY AMERICANA – DIGITALLY CURATED AMERICANA”. and the one who does is getting better and better. check out the beginning of the site and you will see, that the quality of the pics got so awesome and is still getting better. great – one of my absolute favorite sites – sad, the last entry is from november 2011. hope it will be continued. the maker of HEY AMERICANA describes his site as follows:

COREY ARNOLD | NEW BOOK “FISH WORK – THE BERING SEA”

what a contrast to yesterday’s post: FISH WORK – THE BERING SEA. look at COREY’s wonderful photos: you are getting so cold and frightened but at the same moment so fascinated – eye catching. since a few months i watch constantly the tv-production “DER GEFÄHRLICHSTE JOB ALASKAS” on DMAX, where a camera team accompanies crab fisher to their fishing grounds. what a heavy job – damn. a job for real man. the conditions are brutal: heavy seas, cold, wet, 24 hours working shifts, dangerous,… COREY ARNOLD went out as a crew member aboard a fishing boat to the BERING SEA. “With scenes of boat life so vivid that some shots can induce fear or seasickness the artist’s perspective also reveals the tender soulfulness of a fisherman’s extended life at sea. His skillful compositions depict the simultaneous bravery, toil, humor and gumption that “fish-work” demands. Yet the series also illuminates the aesthetic sublimity that can only be experienced ultimately by those willing to risk their lives where the sea breaks its back. Having survived several seasons afloat these icy and unforgiving waters we are lucky that Arnold has taken time to document his artistic impressions of this rare lifestyle and extended us a vicarious glimpse.” chosen as one of the best photo books of the year by PDN and American PHOTO magazines.

you can oder a signed copy at COREY’s website. i did it at the moment …

AMTRAQ | DISTRIBUTION | #02 REYN SPOONER HAWAII SHIRTS

this night in middle germany near frankfurt/main we have had –15C°. time to think for the summer getting some hot “beachy” ideas. what’s about cool HAWAII SHIRTS from REY SPOONER. UWE c/o AMTRAQ is distributing this original hawaiian traditionals. the brand was found in WAIKIKI, HAWAII in 1959. REYN SPOONER is recognized as being the IVY LEAGUE of hawaiin prints. in 1964 REY SPOONER creates the “SPOONER KLOTH”, combining the cool comfort of combed cotton with the wrinkle free properties of spun polyester. do you know the significant signs of a traditional and authentic hawaii shirt? i did not before UWE told me:
_ the shirt has to be a straight seam with side vents; not round like shirts worn into a trouser
_ pockets that do not break into the pattern design
_ POP OVER or PULL OVER cut for pulling over the head
_ REVERSE PRIN. this means that the shirt is printed inside. so the pattern is not so expressive and looks smarter. a look like bleached from the sun and the saltwater.
damn. i think none of my hawaii shirts is authentic … UWE, time to meet again.  pics | REYN SPOONER

VINTAGE PANERAI | 3646 / Type D KAMPFSCHWIMMER ON AUCTION

finding an interesting post at VINTAGE PANERAI about a 3646 / TYPE D “KAMPFSCHWIMMER” watch i checked the site where this beautiful historic piece is on auction. to get some more informations and to take a little look at the price. heart attack! it will be between 45.000 and 55.000 EUROS. and now some facts from the auctioneer DR. H. CROTT:
A German Navy diver’s important wristwatch – only 39 watches of this kind are known today and only four of them have an unsigned “attack diver” dial like the watch at hand. This watch has never been offered at an auction before., Case: steel,  screw back with military engraving: “Kampf-Schwimmer Marine KD 1945”,  “Brevet Plus” winding crown,  short part of the original leather bracelet and original buckle. Dial: black,  luminous Arabic numerals/indexes,  luminous baton hands. Movm.: bridge movement,  cal. “Cortebert 16”,  nickel-plated,  “fausses côtes” decoration,  chatoned,  17 jewels,  polished screws,  monometallic screw balance,  ruby endstone on balance and escape wheel., Radiomir Panerai, In 1942,  720 of these diver’s wristwatches – which were exceptional for the time – were produced; the complete edition was delivered to the German and Italian army which supplied its combat divers with these watches., Source: Rolex Uhren GmbH Köln, Because of the 1914 invention of the luminous material “Radiomir” – a mix of zinc sulfide and radium bromide – the Panerai dials could be read well at night and in deep water. Panerai made use of this advantage in his watches and was commissioned to produce the first diver’s wristwatches,  called “Radiomir”. The first prototypes were still produced at Rolex,  the later watches and their cases were produced at Panerai according to Oyster standards. In 1936 the Panerai Radiomir became a part of the secret naval equipment., Source: “Armbanduhren Klassik Katalog”,  Koenigswinter 2005,  page 146., With the kind support of Ralf Ehlers & Volker Wiegmann,  www.vintagepanerai.com. the highly recommended website for vintage Panerai watches., 33090 G/C: 2,  5,  11,  40 Z/D: 2 W/M: 2,  8,  41,  51, 45.000 – 55.000 €, 61.700 – 75.400 $, 481.500 – 588.500 HK$”
