10 MUST-HAVE-X-MAS-PRESENTS | #02 | RANDOLPH ENGINEERING SUNGLASSES

an absolute american classic. love my sunglasses especially the combination of the golden frame with brown glasses. and these are optical ones – perfect fit, perfect watch. RANDOLPH ENGINEERING was founded 1972: “In the late 1970′s Randolph Engineering started manufacturing Mil-Spec Aviator sunglasses for the United States Air Force as a subcontractor producing in excess of 200, 000 sunglasses annually. Led by Jan’s sons, Randolph won the government bid to become the prime contractor in 1982. By the late 1980′s Randolph had expanded into the commercial sunglass market after civilians learned about the quality of its sunglasses and prescription frames through military channels. Today Randolph remains an iconic brand accelerated by a growing demand for genuine,  well-made products with a strong American heritage. Tried and true manufacturing methods are maintained using the machinery and tooling created by the founders. Randolph Engineering, Inc. is still owned and operated by three generations of the Waszkiewicz and Zaleski families along with a highly skilled and dedicated American workforce.” a great product for an affordable price with a lot of different frames and colored glasses. AKRAM owner of KLAR here downtown darmstadt, sold me a classic silver colored frame with optical glasses – no sunglasses, but for daily use. AKRAM has a lot of different models for sale. the price range is from 139,– € up to 196,– € for gunmetal, silver, matte black and gold frames. it depends on the glasses if they are polarized or not. the more expensive ones are made of synthetic the cheaper ones of glass. for sure these glasses don’t just look american, they are made in the USA. you all know the other “wish to be american brand” that is meanwhile made in italy. i prefer the american original. pics | KLAR & LTG

BOOT OF THE DAY | #182 | RED WING HERITAGE – NEW IRON RANGER STYLE “CHOCOLATE MULESKINNER” #4590

just some minutes ago these news reached me from RED WING HERITAGE europe. i must confess that i am not the greatest fan of the IRON RANGER. i like the look, but from the first time on i saw this boot i knew it will be something for the masses. i owned one that i sold after a short time to a good friend, seeing this boot too often. but i although must confess that this CHOCOLATE MULESKINNER is really mega nice. this is what RW HERITAGE says about the boot: “Red Wing Shoes’ popular Iron Ranger boots are inspired by the style Red Wing Shoes built in the early 20th century for miners working in the northern Minnesota Iron Range. Mining on the Iron Range was a dangerous job full of hazards and the brave workers who took these jobs required extra protection on their feet. To meet the demands of this type of work Red Wing Shoes designed a boot with a capped toe that was double layered with leather. The heel pocket an extra strip of leather that supports the heel inside the boot  was moved to the outside of the boot for added stability. These design changes provided a seamless boot interior and added durability to the exterior of the boot; necessities for workers on their feet all day in the harsh conditions of the mines. Five years ago this work-inspired design was successfully re-introduced as the Iron Ranger and quickly became a popular style for everyday dress. Now,  Red Wing Heritage is introducing a new version of the Iron Ranger built with rugged Chocolate Muleskinner leather. Named the 4590 this style’s unique roughout leather and classic design makes it a handsome addition to any outfit.” the boot will be available at european stores mid-september. pics | Red Wing Heritage Europe

RED WING SHOES | NEW SS 2013 WORK CHUKKA #3149 OLIVE MOHAVE LEATHER

he guys yet another new boot style from RED WINGS SHOES: the WORK BOOT CHUKKA #3149. not my cup of tea, but i think a lot of you will like it. i am not a chukka lover nor from RWS neither VIBERG or another boot maker. this is what RED WING HERITAGE EUROPE says about this chukka: “The Work Chukka earned its name and reputation in the 60’s, when these boots were crafted as a shoe for lighter duty work as an alternative to Red Wing’s heavy duty work boots. In most cases they were used for inside work like carpentry. While needed their boots to be sturdy,  they also needed to be light and flexible to accommodate the bending, climbing and kneeling which their work day required. As it has always been with Red Wing products, no compromises were made on the materials used to build this boot. Red Wing’s Olive Mohave Roughout leather was originally designed for US Marine footwear by Red Wing’s leather tanners. Roughout leather is used in shoes with the outer, smooth grain side and inner,  fluffed,  fresh sides reversed. When used in outdoor environments with gravel and ordinary shoes with the grain side outside tend to sustain damage to the leather surface. Valued for its strength,  flexibility and water resistant features, Red Wing Heritage is now incorporating this leather in their Heritage collection.” i think a RWS chukka will be the first boot for my little LEVI when his feet are large enough … pics | © RED WING HERITAGE EUROPE
