SHWOOD WOODEN EYEWEAR @ KLAR DARMSTADT, GERMANY

what a surprise when AKRAM owner of KLAR in darmstadt, germany, called me up that he got his first delivery from SHWOOD. i like these wooden frames handmade in portland, usa, from the first moment on i saw them. so yesterday i went to KLAR and checked the frames. it was the first time i could try and touch them – lightweight and best handmade stuff: amazing. and the best is, that it is possible to put optical glasses into the frames up to 4 diopter. very nice the PENDLETON x SHWOOD collaboration frame with this special spectacle case. beside AKRAM did a really nice decoration of his shop window: woooooooood. tasty! hope the folks here will honor AKRAM’s courage to sell SHWOOD downtown darmstadt. i checked the retailer list at shwood’s website and except KLAR there are just two shops in berlin selling SHWOOD in germany. pics | LTG

DARMSTADT II DER ANDERE BLICK | LTG CO AUTHOR FOR PHOTOBOOK BY CHRISTIAN GRAU & ANDRÉ RISTO

it would be a lie if i would say that i am not a bit proud of being co author of photobook DARMSTADT II DER ANDERE BLICK. as the title tells you this is the second DARMSTADT book of photographer CHRISTIAN GRAU and pilot ANDRÉ RISTO. all pics show DARMSTADT my hometown city from the view of a plane. and believe me this is great: it is as the german booktitle says THE OTHER VIEW. and the guys are really crazy, because sometimes they went down less than 300m to get the best view for the perfect shot. a flying altitude that is absolutely forbidden over cities … okay. yesterday evening there was a vernissage for an exhibition at the biggest bank in DARMSTADT where both show some highlights of the new book and i got my first copy because of writing some lines beside my most beloved pic: HERRENGARTEN, DARMSTADT’S central park … every author should write something about DARMSTADT. i did a comparision between FULDA, the city i was born, the city i still feel at home too because of my parents and my brother and his family, friends and a lot of memories from the past and DARMSTADT, the city i live meanwhile since 1988, damn, for 26 years. a lot of people told me that they like the comparision because you have to think a bit before understanding what is meant. and so i am really angry about the guy who did the english translation – he did not understand what i was writing. blockhead, this was the last time, i give something i wrote without an approval to print. the resume: FULDA | DARMSTADT … it is like it is: HOME! pics | LTG

sorry, but this is written bullshit: this translation has absolutely nothing to do with the lines i wrote in german …

LTG CAP & HAT COLLECTION | 04 | THE SUMMER STRAW BOWLER BY SCHMITTHUT

i got this wonderful stray BOWLER this summer. especially hand made for me by hat maker and artisan SUSANNE SCHMITT c/o SCHMITTHUT, darmstadt, germany. what a wonderful work. best fit as usual when i get a SCHMITTHUT hat and an awesome straw structure. i like the classic bowler type combined with this normally known material for other hat types like pork pie, fedora or trilby. and always exciting to watch the photos of the process how my hats were made – please take a closer look. pics | SCHMITTHUT & LTG

THE GOLDEN TEXAS STAR RING

nice to have a wife who finds things that are not forgotten but somewhere stored in the house you can’t remember … so it happened with my beloved TEXAS UNIVERSITY RING i bought more than 10 years ago. i remember the day and the place where i got it as it was yesterday. i found this piece while walking through an antique market in frankfurt/main germany with my wife. i wasn’t searching for a college ring or something like this. but the ring was like a magnet. i went to a sales booth saw it in the display case, knewing i must have it. but after asking the seller for the price we went away. but i couldn’t get the ring out of my head. after we were back in darmstadt, i went to the bank to get the money i wanted to spend – less than the seller rather wanted.  so i drove back the 40 kilometers back to the antique market. i told the seller which price i would pay and he gave the ring to me. i love this extraordinary piece and i think it is a good combination with my, no, little LEVI’s ring, he get it when he will be 18 years old. pics | LTG

LIFE TIME GEAR | PRIVATE FAVORITES #27 “KITTY, DAISY & LEWIS”

great night yesterday. thanks OLLI for the tickets and visiting SAN REMO! peter, klaus, uwe, jagger & simone  – nice to meet you! great band. sometimes off-the-wall, but always with the greatest feeling playing different instruments and interpreting the songs: entertainment at its best. if you have the chance to watch the KD&L family you must do it! really surprising was the music style range of KD&L. ska, soul, r’n’r, hillbilly … when i heard their cds this wasn’t so present to me.

RED WING SHOES | CUSTOMIZED VINTAGE IRISH SETTER

it is done. my beloved vintage green IRISH SETTER is back from my new SHOEMAKER. after searching
just a long time i found a shoemaker who is able to customize my boots the way i want to. CANER from
SCHUHBAR in darmstadt, germany, did a real good job. he is an artisan by heart and happy that i send
him FRED with a package full of RED WING SOLES. we will do some experiments the next months.
beside the setter he customized an ALDEN and another RWS BECKMAN boot for me. excellent work!
guys, if your boots need new soles check out EXPRESS SCHUHBAR in darmstadt-city, grafenstr. 37.
and don’t worry CANER is not an express shoemaker. the name is really old and was created by the
former owner of the shop; it will be changed soon. bad pics | LTG
