THE BASQUE-YATAGAN KNIFE | PassionFrance®

last week i went to WOLFGANG c/o PassionFrance with UWE E. MAIER and OLLI THE BARBER to eat one of the best meals i was served this year: a COC AU RIESLING. damn perfect – the chicken were so good. we have had a wonderful evening with a lot of talking, best food and vine. before visiting WOLFGANG i knew that i want to take a BASQUE-YATAGAN KNIFE with me home. so i did: a wonderful one with a cow horn and really nice textures. i love this extraordinary knife style so much. this BASQUE-YATAGAN KNIVE comes from the basque country, spain, and the french provinces which are near the pyrenees. the blade has its origin in the orient because the crusaders brought it to spain and the south of france when thy came back and settled down. today the knives are used by farmer and shepherds. especially tobacco grower around the BERGERAC region where tobacco is cultivated for generations like to use this BASQUE-YATAGAN KNIVE. if tobacco is reaped a jellylike juice is getting out of the plants which makes it difficult to hold the knife. so the rivets and rosettes help to get the perfect grip and developed over the years to a decorative element. the knife i bought has a 12 cm blade, the holder is made of cow horn, blade and back of the holder are needle etched. pics | LTG

TODAY IS “MAENNERABEND” @ BREMERICH JEANS, ILLINGEN, GERMANY

OLI BREMERICH is what BONIFATIUS was for the catholics: a missionary. something like a missionary for all those guys in the sticks around ILLINGEN, SAARLAND, germany, who do not know what good denim and boots mean. ILLINGEN? where the f*** is ILLINGEN? okay, found it on the map: it is a small village 20 km in the north of SAARBRUECKEN just a spy away from the french border in the west of germany. it is really small with around 16.800 people who live there. and one of them is OLI. he runs the shop i do not know, but i think in third generation. the store was founded in 1934! BREMERICH JEANS sells japanese denim, american workwear, heavy boots and all the other stuff we like. in ILLINGEN?, you may ask – yes indeed, and it works! so it will get exciting visiting his 8TH “MAENNERABEND” tonight. a lot of clients and friends were invited and the guys from EAT DUST, PASSIONFRANCE®, RED WING SHOES, THE ONE GOODS and ME. my copywriter PETER will join the event too. i think it will be a relaxed evening with good talks, drinks and typical “MAENNERABEND” food. more to post the next days. the EAT DUST STUFF for today came on time with a special personal deliviery some days ago; check the video below. vid | BREMERICH JEANS || pics | LTG

PASSION FRANCE OR “SPOILT FOR CHOICE – WHICH KNIFE WILL BE MINE …”

yesterday evening i went to PASSION FRANCE with OLLI THE BARBER, KLAUS, c/o VOLLS and UWE E. MAIER c/o AMTRAQ. we went there because UWE got a gift coupon from us when he celebrated his 50 birthday this year to choose a knife @ PASSION FRANCE. WOLFGANG & SABINE received us in their showroom and it was so amazing. damn: so many knives, one nicer than the other. WOLFGANG & SABINE told us all the details and stories about the different types of french knives. it was so exciting and it was really difficult for UWE to decide which knife he should take. at least it was a classical LAGUIOLE – a pretty one. good choice UWE, have fun with your knife! pics | LTG

FRANCE SUJET | FRENCH “SWISS KNIFE” MADE BY COUPÉRIER-COURSOLE

yes, still showing off birthday presents: thx OLLI THE BARBER for this small but so fine french “SCHWEIZER MESSER”. the brass motives of these knives are made with original forms of the 19th century. some of these wonderful d’artisan motives were done by M. OKINSBURGER, who made some drafts for french coins which were embossed in paris. all this knives are still made by hand and every piece is unique. just one craftsman does all the steps which have to be done from the beginning till the end to produce a FRANCE SUJET knife. the knives are available at PassionFrance. pics | LTG
