Hi guys, RWS news will not end this autumn. Today the WORK CHUKKA #3148 was launched. In 2010 The Red Wing Shoe Company developed the WORK CHUKKA in black just for the Japanese market. The BLACK CHROME leather of the #3148 is also used on this really tough and rugged Red Wing Engineer #2268. The weight of the leather is HHH, what means that it is about 2.2-2.4 mm thick. This the thickest leather Red Wing Heritage uses for their boots. The #3148 is the 5th WORK CHUKKA style.

Something about the history of the WORK CHUKKAS RWS tells us: “Unlike other Red Wing boots, the chukka was designed for lighter, indoor work that includes bending, climbing and kneeling. Their crepe outsoles allowed these indoor workers to stay comfortable, while not scratching floors or making a mess. From the late 1950s and ‘60s, American fashion style became more rough and casual. actual work denim work wear became one of the fashion trends. The casual trend was also had an effect on the work wear and boots. Ankle height work boots and Chukka work boots where developed and introduced to follow this casual trend. At same time The Red Wing Shoe Compagny started to use the cushion crepe wedge sole for several work boots styles. The functional and novel outsole was incorporated in the Chukka that  was a new work boot at the time. The root of current chukka style #850 was also launched around the same time in 1954. The work chukka was worn mainly in lighter work or in the weekends for leisure and light outdoor activitys.”

The black #3148 and all the other CHUKKA styles are available @ RED WING SHOE STORE FRANKFURT online or in-store. pics | Red Wing Heritage

at first, i always loved the green RWS boots color and i owned an original from the sixties: an 888 IRISH SETTER made of this smooth and rare green kangaroo leather. yesterday i went to frankfurt with the family to visit KAMI, owner of RED WING STORE FRANKFURT. we talked a lot and when we said good bye he showed me this damn f***ing nice green boots: the new, reissued #8180. he told me that the boot will be officially presented this monday  by RED WING SHOES. so, it was great and a pleasure for me to do a post before the presentation ;-))

Here is the history about the #8180: “in 1963, RWS developed a premium sport boot using australian kangaroo leather. identified by its unique green color, the boot was developed exclusively for SEARS and carried the TED WILLIAM label. WILLIAMS is considered one of the greatest hitters in the history of baseball and was also an avid outdoorsman sho became an american icon. his name became a brand that labeled only the most premium sports and outdoor gear sold at SEARS.” (words by RWS)

so the #8180 is made of unique green KANTAGAN PORTAGE LEATHER, the same leather used to build each of these traditional, hand-stitched baseballs … and sorry, you will not get the ball with you when you buy an #8180 … and this style is exclusively available at RED WING STORES around the world. really nice and so unique. hm, i love the color … and, i did NOT buy these boots yet. pics | LTG

when i sold my cargo BULLIT bike i had to check another possibility to transport larger shopping stuff when i am on the road with my SCHINDELHAUER. so i remembered me the days before i got my BULLIT: yes, in the closet there had be a big CANOE PACK from DULUTH. i knew why i did not sell this wonderful backpack. it’s unbelievable what you can put into this 19H x 18W x 6D pack. when i shop food i use a special basket which i bought with the pack. believe me, this is really practicable and easy to carry. the #2 CRUISER COMBO is made in the usa & guaranteed for life. by standard it is made in olive drab or waxed 18-ounce canvas but a lot of other colors from blue to orange are available too. for more information check the DULUTH site. be careful there are a lot of other must-have bags and packs … pics | LTG

one of my absolute favorite vests which gets better and better with every wear. it is made of selvage indigo – look at the nice details. i like this hunting styled vest with its cinch back and chambray lining. i own another raw brown duck outdoor vest from RISING SUN which is much stiffer but as nice as the indigo one. great american made stuff! pics | LTG

it was pure luck finding this really funny and exciting book written by, for me unknown, “PARKS & RECREATION” actor NICK OFFERMAN. in his first book he shares his “humorous fulminations of life, manliness, meat, and much more”. i just had the time to read over the first pages and it is great! here a short description by the editor: “Growing a perfect moustache, grilling red meat, wooing a woman, who better to deliver this tutelage than the always charming, always manly Nick Offerman, best known as Parks and Recreation’s Ron Swanson? Combining his trademark comic voice and very real expertise in woodworking, he runs his own woodshop. Paddle Your Own Canoe features tales from Offerman’s childhood in small-town Minooka, Illinois, “I grew up literally in the middle of a cornfield”, to his theater days in Chicago, beginnings as a carpenter/actor and the hilarious and magnificent seduction of his now-wife Megan Mullally. It also offers hard-bitten battle strategies in the arenas of manliness, love,  style,  religion, woodworking, and outdoor recreation, among many other savory entrees., A mix of amusing anecdotes,  opinionated lessons and rants,  sprinkled with offbeat gaiety, Paddle Your Own Canoe will not only tickle readers pink but may also rouse them to put down their smart phones, study a few sycamore leaves,  and maybe even hand craft (and paddle) their own canoes.” pics & video | Nick Offerman, LTG
