RED WING ENGINEER #2966 | SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL

Red Wings 2966 ENGINEER is a Red Wing Store special. Red Wing Frankfurt just got some pairs left. It is a non-steel toe transformation of style 968. It is just perfect for the upcoming biker season. Made of Black Klondike leather, which is made from a brown base crust with a black paint finish that gradually wears off to reveal the brown color underneath. It ages beautifully and creates a great vintage look. Here some more special features: The boots have the Wing Label on the inside of the shaft which was used till early 80s | The 2966 has the stamp on the shaft instead of the print on the label. This was how the product information was shown in the Red Wing products till 2003 | The buckle 2966 is a high quality pressed buckle that was used on the steel toe work Engineer till 2000 | 2966 has the RED WING text logo printed on the Right shaft of the boots | The bare back stitch is used and the strap to hold it correctly in place | Brown Base box with Red Wing Label on the Box side is a box style from 1970s. RED WING HERITAGE ICONIC STYLE #8131 | VINTAGE versus NEW

One of my absolute Red Wing favorites is the iconic Moc Toe style #8131. Before handing out my brother his new oro-russet Moc Toe, I had to take some shots – I like the contrast so much. Maybe you wanna check out the “vintage versus new” photos. My rugged boot is from the 90s and when you check the pictures you can’t find many differences compared to the actual #8131. Obviously there is an embossed Red Wing Shoes logo on the outsides of the vintage #8131, while the new boot features the characteristic label at the tongue with a lot of information about the boot. All Red Wing Boots and Shoes have this label since years. The inseams of the heels are a bit different. That’s all. Never change a working system or a good working product! RED WING HERITAGE WOMEN’S COLLECTION | NEW STYLE

Over the last days Red Wing Heritage Women launched new styles.

The Short Engineer #3358 in a beautiful Sand Mohave Leather. As the other Short Engineers #3354 in Black Boundary Leather and the #3356 in Copper Rough and Tough Leather, the #3358 features also a Vibram 430 Mini Lug, a cushioned insole and a slimmer and for women a comfortable and perfect fit.

Sarah Besgen, a well known Polaroid artist, actor and acting teacher, who is living in Berlin is presentingRed Wing’s new Carol styles #3462 made of Amber Harness leather and #3461 in Black Boundary leather. RED WING SHOES NEWS | LAUNCH OF CAMOU MOC TOE #8884

When I heard about this release I was really surprised. The last years I was so proud to own a special CAMOU RED WING MOC TOE Style #8150 – please check my Blog post from January 2012. And the only other owners of this extra ordinary boot I know are Kami Hashemi himself, owner of RED WING STORE FRANKFURT, and Peter Heckman from HECKMAN STORE in Darmstadt, Germany. Okay, now there will be second edition of this special boot: the #8884. Again RED WING uses a MOSSY OAK® Camouflage pattern. The new #8884 comes with black/brown 41″ laces instead of the classic yellow tan laces my #8150 has had and the pattern is not so colorful, it is more brown, more autumnal with leaves that conjures the forests in autumn like the ones around Red Wing in southern Minnesota. Every boot will unique, because of showing other pattern details. The #8884 boot still sports the 6-inch triple-stitched leather upper, Traction Tred rubber outsole and Goodyear welt construction. I am really excited how this Camouflage boot will be accepted by the RED WING aficionados – thrilling. I love this design still for sure, but I am just a bit disappointed that my #8150 is not anymore something outstanding ;-). This time there is something really new and special: RED WING SHOES launches its first contemporary women’s collection. It seems to be a RED WING SHOES release week. Guys, the next new styles arrived at the stores: the COOPER, available in “AMBER HARNESS | #2954” and “BLACK HARNESS | #2964“. The classic design of the iconic RWS styles #875 and #877, which were popular in the past among sport and hunting enthusiasts, later construction workers, with that nowadays so beloved Cushion Crepe Sole, fueled the development of RED WING SHOES new COOPER collection. Here the story of THE MERCHANT: “Working as a merchant in Red Wing, Minnesota at the beginning of the 20th century, Charles Beckman experienced the need for durable and comfortable boots first-hand. In 1905, when he couldn’t find boots to meet his needs, he started his own shoe company: The Red Wing Shoe Company. More than a century later, Red Wing Shoes has now developed “the Merchant” as a tribute to Charles Beckman. The Merchant is based on traditional work boots from the 1920’s, when Red Wing started making boots without toe reinforcement to provide a more comfortable fit without stress points. In 1929 20 out of the 50 styles came without a toe-box. The “no toe-box” provides flexibility and comfort around the toe area. Style #245 from 1920 is the oldest and closest Red Wing work boot to the Merchant. Style #245 was called “black chief” and was made without a toe-box. The black chief came with a plain toe and was raw cut at the quarter edge.
The historical work boot most similar to the Merchant is style 245 from 1920, which was made without a toe-box, but instead featured a plain toe and raw cut at the quarter edge. The Merchant is built on the 8 last, which is also used for the Blacksmith. But because of the missing toe-box, the Merchant has a slimmer look and a lower toe profile than the Blacksmith.”

The Pecos Boots: “Red Wing Shoe Company is perhaps best known for the work boots made for the farmers, miners, and sportsmen of the Upper Midwest but early on, we introduced another boot for a different group of workers in the American West. We had an office in Dallas, Texas as early as 1923 to serve the unique market of ranchers, cowboys and oil drilling roughnecks in the region. At the time, most of these workers wore pull-on riding boots, often with decorative stitching, and Red Wing responded with one of its own in the 1930s. By the 1950s, with typical Minnesota understatement, we did away with the decorative flourish and introduced a pull-on boot of our own devising.
This pull-on boot was given a new name, the Pecos, after a town in Texas and it evolved into one of our most popular styles. The renowned Red Wing durability worked as well on the ranches of the Southwest as they did the farms and fields of Minnesota. The appeal of the Pecos spread, thanks to its simple design, comfortable fit, and rugged good looks. Still made the same way with quality leathers in our factory in Red Wing, the Pecos is now seen on hardworking feet from coast to coast, both ends of the Mississippi, and everywhere in between. Call it a cowboy boot, with a Minnesota twist.”
The #8187 has a shaft ankle-length, is made of Hawthorne Muleskinner leather and got the iconic Red Wing Nitrile Cork Sole

RED WING SHOES | HERITAGE AT ITS BEST: ICONIC LINEMAN BOOTS STYLE #2996

In the early twentieth century electricity went to nearly all households across the United States. More and more workers, these so called “LINEMEN”, began to lay high voltage lines across the whole country. This was a very dangerous job and so safety gear was required to protect the workers, f.ex. special boots. In 1952 Red Wing Shoes produced their first Lineman style #606. Compare this one with the new #2996 – this is what heritage means! Characteristic for the LINEMAN boot is the lace-to-toe design which means, that the shoe laces go all the way to the toe part for more stable footing, for a tighter fit. Trying the boot on and lace it you will notice this. I like this compact fit. The #2996 features: Cigar Retan leather upper | Leather lining | Lace-to-toe with speed hooks at top | Gusseted tongue | Leather-covered foot bed | Goodyear welt construction | oil resistant signature nitrile cork sole. THE RED WING SHOES “ORIGINAL BOOT” REPLICA FROM 1905 | THE 1ST RED WING BOOT EVER

By cleaning up my boot closet I found this black beauty. Damn, this boot is so nice but my wife didn’t wear it for a long time and will not wear it anymore. This is not her boot style – she prefers the RWS Moc Toes and Chelseas. I bought this rare piece from RED WING SHOES in 2005 at Red WING SHOES Frankfurt, Germany. The model number is #850. They produced just a very small and limited run of these for the 100th birthday of RWS, I think to remember. Now I must give it away because I need more space for other boots I got the last time for my collection. Tomorrow I will give the boot to KAMI, owner of Red Wing Store Frankfurt, and we will show it @ the B74 Vintage Sale on Saturday 14th. Maybe I will sell it or Kami will take it to his magic archive. We will see … I can’t calm down seeing this boot for the first time again after some years: what an awesome boot! And it is a really good and original Replica compared to the picture of the “ORIGINAL BOOT” from 1905. The original work boot first year featured leather, buckles and laces for a secure fit.
