THE GREASER “MICK T-SHIRT” | THE SELVEDGE YARD x NICK THE TAILOR COLLABORATION

Yesterday I went to the customs to pick up my “Greaser Mick” collaboration t-shirt. Following TSY “THE SELVEDGE YARD” from the first days on I am interested in checking cool blogs, I was so happy to get this extraordinary t-shirt. What a cool motive for me as a great DISNEY and Rockabilly aficionado. The illustration was made by NICK THE TAILOR a Philadelphian artist and tattooist – very well done Nick! The shirt is high quality printed in Philadelphia on a 100% cotton American Apparel stuff made in the USA. Because of a good working networking I saw this great shirt the first time at DON SCHWEDEs Facebook site linked to his great blog “THE LAST DON” – thx. pics | LTG

RED WING SHOES | NEW RELEASE: COOPER MOC #2954 & #2964

It seems to be a RED WING SHOES release week. Guys, the next new styles arrived at the stores: the COOPER, available in “AMBER HARNESS | #2954” and “BLACK HARNESS | #2964“. The classic design of the iconic RWS styles #875 and #877, which were popular in the past among sport and hunting enthusiasts, later construction workers, with that nowadays so beloved Cushion Crepe Sole, fueled the development of RED WING SHOES new COOPER collection. Okay – the COOPER – named for the woodworkers, who build barrels and casks. Compared to the #875 the COOPER shows two elementary differences: a smart profiled Vibram® 430 Mini-lug sole and speed hooks. I like the look of these new 6 inch Moc Toe boots a lot, especially the black #2964. Check these USA made boots @ Red Wing Store Frankfurt in store or 24/7 online. And for sure these boots can be resoled @ Red Wing Store Frankfurt! pics | Red Wing Heritage | blog.lostartpress.com

VINTAGE USA TEAM OLYMPIC TRACK JACKET 2004 | by ROOTS CANADA

He guys, it is OLYMPIA time. I own an official USA TEAM outfitter track jacket from 2004. Damn, time is running. I did a trip to California in 2004 and stopped by in Los Angeles. At the same time the Olympic Games took place in Athens – historic! As it was just a few days ago, I know exactly the look of the shop where I bought this jacket – but I am sorry, that I can’t remember the name and location of the shop. I think it was a “ROOT” flag ship store, but I am not sure. I love the states from being a child on and when I saw this track jacket, it was a “Must-Buy”. No wonder, that I liked the look and the well-done details even nowadays. Okay, today wondering about the fact, that this jacket was not MADE IN USA … but what a pleasure, it was made in Canada by ROOTS – and not somewhere cheap in Asia – I think you know the discussion about the TRUMP cap Made in China “Make America great again” – what a f***ing bad joke. This USA TEAM track jacket stands out for its excellent quality – right now after 12 years. “Roots went on to be the official outfitter for members of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Teams from 2000 to 2004, and was the official outfitter for the Canadian Speed Skating Team in 2006. Roots outfitted the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams in 2002, 2004, and 2006. Other teams that Roots outfitted include the British Olympic Team (2002, 2004), and the Barbados Olympic Team (2004).” I wear this jacket often, when I go to the gym and I feel the looks on it – this jacket is extraordinary here in Germany. Red, white and blue worn with proud by a black, red and gold one … ! pics | LTG | © Getty Images

HANDMADE SPICES FROM “cuisine m” | by MICHAEL UHLEMANN

2 weeks ago I got a parcel from a sender I did not know: MICHAEL UHLEMANN. Okay. It was so niced packed that I got curios. MICHAEL wrote me such a friendly, kind and nice handwritten letter in which he said thx to me for the inspiration he got reading Life-Time-Gear-blog. I got really emotionally … you must know this box and the letter seemed to appear from the nowhere. After checking what person MICHAEL is, I got more excited. He is a well known and experienced cook, who worked with star cooks like Dieter Mueller and Jean Claude Borgueil. MICHAEL started his carrier as an Event-Cook for german high end kitchen producer GAGGENAU. What a pleasure that he send me a choice of his handmade spices – I will try these soon. The smell is unbelievable! And look at the pretty designed glasses. When he is not making spices, MICHAEL offers a wide range of catering services. His company “cuisine m.” plans, organizes, designs and realizes all the “culinary details” for nearly every occasion. MICHAEL prepares best stuff @ his kitchen and does the finish where his clients want him to. Sounds good, looks good – check the site and when you do this don’t miss MICHAEL’s blog: awesome. When MICHAEL is not cooking he loves fishing, hiking or plays the drums in a band named “The Cartwrights” – beside, a drum set is placed in his kitchen – pretty cool.

Here the story of THE MERCHANT: “Working as a merchant in Red Wing, Minnesota at the beginning of the 20th century, Charles Beckman experienced the need for durable and comfortable boots first-hand. In 1905, when he couldn’t find boots to meet his needs, he started his own shoe company: The Red Wing Shoe Company. More than a century later, Red Wing Shoes has now developed “the Merchant” as a tribute to Charles Beckman. The Merchant is based on traditional work boots from the 1920’s, when Red Wing started making boots without toe reinforcement to provide a more comfortable fit without stress points. In 1929 20 out of the 50 styles came without a toe-box. The “no toe-box” provides flexibility and comfort around the toe area. Style #245 from 1920 is the oldest and closest Red Wing work boot to the Merchant. Style #245 was called “black chief” and was made without a toe-box. The black chief came with a plain toe and was raw cut at the quarter edge.
The historical work boot most similar to the Merchant is style 245 from 1920, which was made without a toe-box, but instead featured a plain toe and raw cut at the quarter edge. The Merchant is built on the 8 last, which is also used for the Blacksmith. But because of the missing toe-box, the Merchant has a slimmer look and a lower toe profile than the Blacksmith.

The Pecos Boots: “Red Wing Shoe Company is perhaps best known for the work boots made for the farmers, miners, and sportsmen of the Upper Midwest but early on, we introduced another boot for a different group of workers in the American West. We had an office in Dallas, Texas as early as 1923 to serve the unique market of ranchers, cowboys and oil drilling roughnecks in the region. At the time, most of these workers wore pull-on riding boots, often with decorative stitching, and Red Wing responded with one of its own in the 1930s. By the 1950s, with typical Minnesota understatement, we did away with the decorative flourish and introduced a pull-on boot of our own devising.
This pull-on boot was given a new name, the Pecos, after a town in Texas and it evolved into one of our most popular styles. The renowned Red Wing durability worked as well on the ranches of the Southwest as they did the farms and fields of Minnesota. The appeal of the Pecos spread, thanks to its simple design, comfortable fit, and rugged good looks. Still made the same way with quality leathers in our factory in Red Wing, the Pecos is now seen on hardworking feet from coast to coast, both ends of the Mississippi, and everywhere in between. Call it a cowboy boot, with a Minnesota twist.”

The #8187 has a shaft ankle-length, is made of Hawthorne Muleskinner leather and got the iconic Red Wing Nitrile Cork Sole

RED WING SHOES | HERITAGE AT ITS BEST: ICONIC LINEMAN BOOTS STYLE #2996

In the early twentieth century electricity went to nearly all households across the United States. More and more workers, these so called “LINEMEN”, began to lay high voltage lines across the whole country. This was a very dangerous job and so safety gear was required to protect the workers, f.ex. special boots. In 1952 Red Wing Shoes produced their first Lineman style #606. Compare this one with the new #2996 – this is what heritage means! Characteristic for the LINEMAN boot is the lace-to-toe design which means, that the shoe laces go all the way to the toe part for more stable footing, for a tighter fit. Trying the boot on and lace it you will notice this. I like this compact fit. The #2996 features: Cigar Retan leather upper | Leather lining | Lace-to-toe with speed hooks at top | Gusseted tongue | Leather-covered foot bed | Goodyear welt construction | oil resistant signature nitrile cork sole. For sure these boots are made in the USA. The #2996 is exclusively sold @ RED WING STORES around Europe and in Japan. Get your RWS heritage LINEMAN boots @ Red Wing Store Frankfurt online and in-store. pics | LTG | Red Wing Shoes
